Hot Chocolate Recipe and Video

Here we have it folks, the video tutorial and recipe of my luvvlyy Hot Chocolate, a easy and simple guide made with real chocolate (no cocoa powder!). This is REAL Hot chocolate, not Drinking Chocolate the kind where you put a couple of teaspoons into a mug and some hot water…yucky!

Ever since I was a teenager, I always was on a ‘hunt’ for the most chocolatey hot chocolate, but nothing satisfied my findings, even coffee shops! Doesn’t matter how much whip cream they add on top, the chocolate underneath is just a watered down chocolate mix.

So after quite some research, I ended up making my own recipe through lots of research. This simple and yet easy recipe can be quickly made right in your kitchen that after you tasted it you won’t want to go back and buy cheap drinking chocolate!

The perfect relaxed dinner party dessert: after my husband and I moved into our own small cottage in the countryside, I decided to invite friends and family over for dinner but I didn’t have any flour to make cakes for dessert so I decided to make hot chocolate for everyone. And how lovely that turned out! As we sat on cushions on the floor (didn’t have a sofa then!) having a wonderful time as each one of us passed the whipped cream to keep topping up our hot chocolate with an extra jug of hot chocolate on the coffee table waiting for any refills. A serious contender to the normal cake desserts when having a dinner party! A lovely warm way to have fun and enjoy people’s company with a mug of hot chocolate and never ending whip cream. A definite must try out!

Ingredients:

Makes 1 cup

  • 30g of dark/plain chocolate, broken into pieces for easy melting
  • 2-3tsps. of sugar
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1tsp. coffee (up to you)
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon (optional)
  • If you have one, milk frother/whizz

Method:

  1. Place milk in saucepan and put on MEDIUM heat. It is very important NOT to boil. If it boils, try a new batch as the hot chocolate won’t work if milk boils so make sure its on MEDIUM heat.
  2. While milk is warming go ahead and add your cinnamon stick now.
  3. Just as the milk begins to warm (you can usually test by placing your hand over the saucepan and feeling the warmth) add your chocolate and continually stir.
  4. Make sure you keep stirring to prevent the chocolate from sticking to the pan and for it all to dissolve.
  5. Once the chocolate has dissolved (the milk has changed colour to light brown), add your nutmeg, sugar, coffee and ground cinnamon and stir.
  6. Remove cinnamon stick and turn off heat.
  7. Now with a milk frother/whizz, place it halfway into the pan and whizz away until nice and frothy!
  8. Serve hot and enjoy!
  9. Optional extra: squirt some whipped cream on top before serving.
